My Volkswagen Golf GTi Mk 1 (84,000 Miles) |
|
This is my 'Classic' Mk1 Golf Gti. I had one of these in 1982 when I was just 24 years old. (Aaagh seems like only yesterday) At that time the Gti was THE hot hatch to have. My old car (UHG 262Y) never missed a beat and although it was used mostly for commuting to work during the week, the open roads beckoned at weekends and I regularly drove to North Wales and 'hammered it' along the mountain roads.
I courted my wife in it, my first child Matthew had a car seat in the back of it, and I spent a happy part of my life driving what was to become the classic hot hatch. Two years ago I started looking to see if there were any good examples still left in one piece. After searching for almost 12 months I found this one in Nottingham and I immediately snapped it up. |

With only 84,000 miles on the clock SSX 525Y had been garaged since new and was only used at weekends. It came with a full service history and it hadn't been customised. modified or molested. Since I bought the car I have spent about £2,000 on repairs and upgrades (the wife thinks only £1000 so don't tell her) The car is slowly coming back to showroom condition. It's been expensive but worth every penny! |

Here are some of the things that have been done to it.
- 4 x New Tyres
- Original Tarantula Wheels re-instated (Refurbished)
- New Front Spoiler
- Stainless Steel Number Plate Brackets
- New Bumpers (Front & Rear)
- Headlight wiring loom Upgrade
- Bottom end re-spray with new decals, badges and trim
- Heater Blower Motors
- Coil over shockers
- Stainless steel sports exhaust
- New clutch
- New gear linkage

The car now drives like new and with its torquey 1800cc engine and almost no weight (compared to a modern Golf), it will give most of the 'new' hot hatches a run for their money. That includes the latest Golf GTi. |
